Act for Change: Tweedsmuir community

Read on for updates from Tweedsmuir who had some fantastic success with their Act for Change project.

“We were able to considerably expand and improve the community recycling facilities available to everyone within the small community of Tweedsmuir.

The Recycling Hut, provided by the Community Council, is now clearly signposted and easy to find.

Blister pack recycling has always been a priority for the community, and this funding has allowed us to deliver this service

New recycling information leaflets have been produced and are available to everyone.

We have promoted the community food waste composting that is in the community gardens, and provided householders with support and compost caddies to allow them to use this facility

Until this project Tweedsmuir residents had to travel considerable distances to use other recycling services, or as is the case with blister packs the waste was disposed of in the black bins and going to landfill

This project has allowed us to offer these services locally, this has reduced the need to travel and use fuel and has also reduced the amount of waste from Tweedsmuir going to landfill

We plan to continue to support people to use this service, providing regular info.

We continue to expand the recycling services, and are working with Eishels to offer a free community pick up of large items for recycling. This is being delivered by community volunteers.

We are also exploring what options will be available for recycling glass locally.”
