Act for change: Cornucopia
Cornucopia ran a film screening as part of Act for Change.
“We ran a free event at Unit 4 in Hawick on February 14th called Love Bites ~ an ecological twist on Valentine’s. We screened the 50-minute film ROOTED: GROWING A LOCAL ECO FOOD SYSTEM made and featuring the collective Propagate, based in Dumfries and Galloway. This was followed by a largely vegetarian pot-luck supper to be as inclusive as possible to all dietary requirements. The tables heaved with scrumptious dishes brought by members of the audience. This was followed by songs performed by two local musicians (a lovely last-minute addition). 30 adults and two children attended. We thought the film was very inspiring and that ideas like a local food hub would be great in our local community ~ to that end we have thought that we might screen it again and invite a member of Propagate to come and talk about the film. If we were to do this, we would make a concerted effort to target local food producers to attend in order to stimulate discussion. (The Valentine’s event was targeted at the Unit 4 mailing list and the local community through posters and social media. If we showed the film again we would target this specific audience in a more direct way via personal invitations.) This also ties in with a series of talks we are planning to do with food production and innovation in the Borders and the event was an opportunity to flag this up plus other forthcoming events at Unit 4. On the back of this successful screening the film was screened at nearby Chisholme House to an audience of 22 people. So the final reach of the film exceeded our initial target audience of 40 people.”
