Smailholm community heat team
West Linton Community Heat team, with support of Scottish Borders Climate Action Network (SBCAN), have been busy expanding their exciting community heat team concept. A community heat team will carry out thermal imagery surveys in homes to see where households can save money and energy! The project is aimed at reducing energy costs and promoting sustainability in local households. You can read more about the work West Linton have done here. WL Community Thermal Action Project
We had put a shout out earlier this year to see if any communities would be interested in kickstarting a community heat team in their area. Conversations started and SBCAN were out at Smailholm earlier this month for the launch of their community heat team!
We had a super morning launching the concept at Smailholm village hall. We chatted about the history of the project and looked at the benefit it can bring to a community. The volunteers then had a go using the thermal imaging cameras. The next steps include some practice of the cameras in households and getting a date in the diary for the next training day to look at the survey software. We shall keep you posted on how the team get on!
