act for change: jedburgh grammar school
What a successful time Jedburgh Grammar had with their Act for Change project! They made over 30 bird boxes with their P7s. Well done team!
“We used our SBCAN funding to buy wood to build bird boxes for the school grounds and the community. The aim was to increase biodiversity which is one of our Eco School Topics this year. Our Technical technician cut the wood into parts which were then assembled by our P7 STEM class. This fitted as a STEM activity and also acted as a transition activity and introduction to the equipment in the technical department. The P7 pupils were helped by our BAM facilities technician and teaching staff plus senior members of our Eco Team. The birdboxes that were not finished on the day were completed by S2 students during technology lessons. The bird boxes are being erected around the school grounds by our P5 gardening groups and the BAM facilities manager. We are offering bird boxes to the community via the school weekly update. We have also offered bird boxes to Scottish Borders Council HQ and our local care home. The bird boxes at school will be monitored over the coming months for nesting activity.”
