Eat Sleep Ride: Youth Climate Action Fund
Eat Sleep Ride received funding for their sustainable food project in 2024 as part of our Youth Climate Action Fund. The project, working with young people, facilitated the building of a chicken coop, purchasing of chickens and preparation for the sale of eggs.
The young people involved learnt about self-sufficiency, reducing food miles, and the importance of raising chickens for fresh, local eggs. By growing food and caring for animals on-site, they actively engaged with sustainable living and environmental responsibility. The project also created awareness about the ecological impact of small-scale farming and responsible land management.
The project provided the young people with hands-on experience in animal care, responsibility, and teamwork. By managing the chickens and being responsible for their well-being, they developed practical skills, leadership abilities, and a sense of ownership. The rota system for caring for the chickens on weekends and holidays empowered the young people to manage their time and commit to their tasks.
The branding and social media aspect of the project allowed them to explore entrepreneurial opportunities, learning how to market and sell eggs, and build skills in social media promotion. Working alongside a young social media marketer also gave them insight into career possibilities within digital marketing.
