Earth Hour-Youth Workshop

On Saturday 22nd SBCAN recognised Earth Hour with a info session and workshop for young people in collaboration with Sustainable Borders.

Earth hour, known as the ‘switch off the lights moment’ offers an opportunity to show support for the planet and raise awareness of the environmental issues affecting it. We spoke to the young people about how earth hour can be a moment of unity in a divided world, reminding us that our planet is our shared home and that we can and must play a part in protecting it.

The challenge of switching off, even for a short time, was recognised by everyone. However, there were some great suggestions of activities that we could do without using any energy and people were willing to give it a try.

We also played a climate word game with the young people, with a lot of laughter and competitive spirt. Followed by a session making fires with flint and steel and toasting of marshmallows.

A great session, thanks to the young people and the team at Rowlands youth club.
