act for change: ayton primary school
Ayton have had a very productive Act for change month! Well done team.
“Ayton Primary School decided to focus on making our playground a greener space and doing a community litter pick. With help from an SBCan funding grant, and advice and support from Pearsons of Duns Garden Centre, we have successfully planted wild flower beds and installed bird feeders to attract wildlife to our playground, added shrubs and flowers to enhance our green space, and positioned three new fruit trees to replace the ones we lost during our new trim trail development. P5 spent an afternoon litter picking in the local area to help tidy up Ayton’s community spaces, and our playground was cleared of litter too. The whole school took part in the project and we feel it has been of benefit to the whole community. We have had residents giving thanks for cleaning up the village, parents commenting on the attractive playground space, and our pupils are continuing to show an interest in looking after our environment. They ask every playtime to get litter pickers out, they have been engaged with watering the new plants, and keeping an eye on refilling the bird feeders. P1/2 also asked to make posters reminding everyone to look after our green spaces so we have now laminated these and they are dotted around our playground. We are hoping to continue with this project through the summer term and beyond, to continue to create a welcoming and environmentally friendly playground and space for all the community to enjoy. Thank you for your support with our project, we have all really enjoyed taking part”
